How to make cannabis butter

Cannabis butter is a versatile ingredient for a variety of culinary creations. Here you can find out how to make them.

To unlock the full potential of cannabis, I recommend making cannabis butter. This butter can elevate many recipes, creating a unique culinary experience. Plan this a day before baking for optimal results.

Ingredients for Cannabis Butter:

Tools Needed:

Making Cannabis Butter:

  • Slowly heat half a liter of water in a medium-sized pot, then add the butter to melt it. In the meantime, finely grind the cannabis, preferably using a grinder. The finer the grind, the better the results. After the butter has melted, reduce the heat and add the ground cannabis to the pot.

  • Now, patience is required. Let the mixture simmer for at least 3 hours, but it can also be left on the stove slowly for half a day. It's important to stir occasionally and add some water if necessary. The cannabis-infused butter is ready when the liquids have separated, and a thick layer of fat floats on top.

  • In the next step, separate the liquid from the cannabis. This can be done with a sieve, but using a cheesecloth is even more effective, as it allows you to thoroughly squeeze out the mixture. The squeezed cannabis can be disposed of or used for other culinary purposes, such as in a salad dressing. The mixture of water and oil is placed in the refrigerator overnight. The next morning, the solidified butter can be gently lifted off the water.

By the way, depending on the strain and quality of the cannabis used, you may need a bit more or less to make high-quality cannabis-infused butter. This is where experimentation comes into play

Quick Version for Those in a Hurry:

  • 250 grams of butter

  • 8 grams of cannabis

Decarboxylate the cannabis in the oven. First, preheat the oven to 110 degrees Celsius. Grind or chop the cannabis evenly and spread it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. The cannabis should be spread out on the paper. Place the baking sheet in the oven for 90 minutes to ensure optimal activation of the cannabis.

After removing the cannabis from the oven, mix it with 250 grams of melted butter. The key difference from the previously described water bath method is that the cannabis remains in the butter, making it suitable for brownies and other recipes. Most people do not find this bothersome as it does not affect the product's effectiveness.

This method allows you to make cannabis butter that can be used directly in recipes. Decarboxylated butter is a versatile ingredient for a variety of culinary creations.

How to train Cannabis for higher yields

Calculating THC Content in Cannabis Butter

The THC content in the butter depends on various factors, including THC's solubility in fat, the mixing ratio, and water content. In this example, we used 8 grams of cannabis with a 15% THC content, 250 grams of butter, and 1 liter of water.

Naturally, the quantity may need adjustments depending on the cannabis quality, possibly more or less. In the end, there's only one way to go about it: experimenting and trying, over and over again!

Since THC is fat-soluble, it will dissolve in the butter but not in the water. When you heat and mix the butter and water, the THC from the cannabis will transfer into the butter. Water typically serves to regulate the temperature and prevent the butter from burning.

To calculate the THC content in the butter, start by determining the total THC content in the 8 grams of cannabis:

  • Total THC in Cannabis = Amount of Cannabis (in grams) x THC content (in percentage)

  • Total THC in Cannabis = 8 g x 15% = 1,200 mg THC

Now you have 1,200 milligrams of THC from the cannabis. Since you've dissolved it in 250 grams of butter, you can calculate the THC content in the butter:

  • THC in Butter (in milligrams) = Total THC in Cannabis / Amount of Butter (in grams)

  • THC in Butter = 1,200 mg / 250 g = 4.8 mg/g

The THC content in the butter is approximately 4.8 milligrams per gram of butter.

Please note that this is a rough estimate, and the actual THC concentration can vary depending on various factors, including the extraction process.

For a beginner or a smaller individual, a recommended THC dose would be about 1 to 10 mg. An experienced user might take a dose between 10 and 20 mg. Finally, an experienced individual might consume between 20-50 mg or more, depending on the desired effect.

Once you figure out the right amount of THC for your cannabutter, you can get baking! Take a look at some recipes and enjoy this culinary experience.
