How do you make cannabis milk?

Cannabis milk, much like cannabis butter, serves as an excellent starting point for culinary experiments. Numerous recipes call for the use of milk due to its fat content. It's precisely this fat that combines with THC and other cannabinoids from cannabis to create an intoxicating beverage. With it, you can make a cannabis version of almost anything that typically involves milk, be it a bowl of cornflakes or a cake.

Making cannabis milk is straightforward, requiring no utensils beyond those commonly found in the kitchen. We offer two options: one using regular cow's milk and one for vegans using almond milk. By substituting milk with regular or heavy whipping cream, you can even prepare cannabis whipped cream.

Ingredients:

  • 1 liter whole milk

  • Approximately the same amount of decarboxylated cannabis as in a high-quality joint should be added to every quarter liter of milk. In most situations, this equals 1g of flowers per ¼ liter of milk. If your tolerance is higher, feel free to adjust the amount accordingly. > Determining THC content in 1 liter of milk

Instructions:
Decarboxylation:

  • Preheat the oven to about 115-120°C.

  • Evenly spread finely ground cannabis on a baking sheet.

  • Bake for about 30-40 minutes in the oven to activate decarboxylation. This step is crucial to ensuring the conversion of THC-A to psychoactive THC.

  • > More about Decarboxylation

Preparation:

  • Heat the milk in a pot until it's just about to boil but not boiling.

  • Add the decarboxylated cannabis and reduce the heat. Let it simmer on low heat for at least 1 to 2 hours.

  • Stir occasionally to ensure it doesn't burn.

Filtering:

  • After the infusion period, filter the milk through a fine sieve or a cheesecloth-lined sieve to remove solid plant parts.

Storage:

  • Let the cannabis milk cool and then store it in the refrigerator.

Perfect! Now you have your homemade cannabis milk ready for consumption, whether enjoyed directly, as part of another beverage, or even as a flavoring ingredient in cooking! Note, however, that you should plan for a time window of at least one and a half hours for the milk to reach its full effect.

Is it possible to prepare cannabis milk without first decarboxylating the marijuana?

Due to the fat solubility of marijuana, it needs to be mixed with a fat through a heating process to release its cannabinoids. Therefore, the milk used for cannabis-infused milk should be whole milk, as the low fat content in skim milk would not allow for the desired effects.

Thanks to this property, it's also possible to make cannabis milk without prior decarboxylation of the marijuana in the oven. In this method, finely ground cannabis is directly added to the milk. The milk is then heated at medium heat without bringing it to a boil. The finely ground marijuana is added, and occasional stirring is done with a spatula.

This process takes about an hour, during which the milk gently simmers. Afterward, it is taken off the heat and allowed to cool. Once cooled, it is filtered into the desired storage container using a sieve or cheesecloth.

Determination of the THC content in 1 liter of milk.

Assuming you have, as in our recipe, 4 grams of cannabis with a THC content of 10%, and you want to dissolve it in 1 liter of milk.

Calculate the THC content in cannabis in grams:

THC in grams = (Cannabis mass in grams)×(THC percentage in decimal form) = 4g×0.10 = 0.4g
This means that 4 grams of cannabis contain 0.4 grams of THC.

To calculate the THC content per milliliter (ml) of milk, we need to consider the milk quantity.

1 liter of milk is equal to 1000 ml:
THC per ml = THC in Grams / Milk quantity in ml = 0,4 g /  1000 m l= 0,0004 g/ml

To get the value in milligrams, multiply by 1000 (since 1 gram = 1000 milligrams):

THC per ml in mg
=0,0004 g / ml × 1000=0,4 mg/ml
This means that every milliliter of milk in the solution contains 0.4 milligrams of THC.

It is important to note that the potency of cannabis milk depends on the quality of the cannabis used, the duration of infusion, and other factors. Start with a low dose, especially if you are new to using cannabis products, and adjust the quantity as needed. Also, be aware of the legal regulations in your region regarding the possession and use of cannabis.
